Walla Walla coaches to receive training on use of social media and compliance issues
All Walla Walla Public Schools coaches will spend two hours Wednesday evening reviewing appropriate coach conduct, use of social media, student-athletes supervision and boundary invasion issues. Attorney and former high school coach Chris Burton will lead the training session.

"We want to be proactive on our training and awareness of these issues," said Assistant Superintendent Laure Quaresma. "We are professionals and we owe it to our coaches, students and parents to be well prepared."

Wednesday, May 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
District Office Board Room (364 S. Park Street, Walla Walla, WA)

Topics to be included in this training:
- Coaches' use of social media
- Coaches and boundary invasions
- Coaches and AAU and possible violation of district conflict of interest policies
- WIAA out-of-season compliance
- Is the coach an employee in the summer?
- Volunteer coaches and student athlete supervision

Chris Burton, Trainer:
Chris Burton is an attorney. Prior to graduating from law school in 2003, Burton spent 14 years as a varsity boys' basketball coach and a girls' fast pitch coach. Burton was the youngest head coach in California in 1987 at 22-years-old. Over the course of his coaching career, Burton conducted youth summer camps with up to 200 campers and organized summer leagues with more than 30 teams. Annually he raised approximately $20,000 for his athletic programs.

Burton has conducted dozens of workplace investigations focused on coach conduct, equitable treatment of student-athletes, fundraising and boundary invasion allegations.
