Enrollment & Registration

How to Register for School

Students may register year-round (except mid-June to mid-August) at their attendance area school. District boundary maps detailing your attendance area are available at all Walla Walla Public Schools, the district office (364 S. Park St.) and online. Attendance area is based on street address.

Special Note:  The home school for Edison attendance area non-dual language kindergarten students will be Sharpstein Elementary School.  Please go there (410 Howard Street) to register.

Kindergarten

Students entering kindergarten must be five-years-old on or before August 31. Prospective kindergartners should register at their attendance area elementary schools. District boundary maps detailing your attendance area are available on the district website, at all Walla Walla Public Schools and the district office. Attendance area is based on street address.

Enrollment for the next year's kindergarten program now takes place during the spring. More information will be published in school newsletters, the local newspaper, and on the district website. Contact your child's attendance area school for more information. 

Note: Students must turn five no later than August 31st of the year in which they enroll for kindergarten.    Younger students, who turn five between September 1 and October 31, may be tested for early entrance, but there is no guarantee of placement.   For more information, please contact the district Teaching and Learning Department, 526-6735.

Elementary School

What is needed:

  • The district will accept any one of a variety of documents for purposes of establishing a student’s age—for example, a birth certificate (U.S. or foreign), a baptismal record, or another alternative document.
  • list of immunizations
  • verification of address
    • water/utility bill;
    • rent payment receipt showing the address for the rented or leased home or
    • rental or lease agreement for the home currenly occupied by parent or guardian;
    • Completed questionnaire verifying housing status

Secondary School

What is needed:

  • The district will accept any one of a variety of documents for purposes of establishing a student’s age—for example, a birth certificate (U.S. or foreign), a baptismal record, or another alternative document.

  • withdrawal sheet or report card from the previous school
  • verification of address
    • water/utility bill;
    • rent payment receipt showing the address for the rented or leased home or
    • rental or lease agreement for the home currenly occupied by parent or guardian;
    • Completed questionnaire verifying housing status

Open Enrollment/Kindergarten Registration

There are two registrations periods for enrollment in Walla Walla Public Schools for the 2017-2018 school year.

The first will be for secondary (middle and high) schools. It will run from February 1 through 28, 2017.   The schools will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. February 1st through the end of the month.  

Secondary parents/guardians who wish to open enroll their child to a school outside of their attendance area may pick up an Open Enrollment application at their attendance area school or a release form from their current school district office during normal business hours beginning January 23; however, forms will not be accepted in the receiving school until Wednesday, February 1st.

 

The second period for Kindergarten and Fall Registration for elementary schools will be from Monday, April 17 to Friday, April 28, 2017. Kindergarten registration will be conducted at the student’s attendance area elementary school. Parents wishing to pick up the kindergarten registration information may do so at their child’s school beginning April 10. However, the completed registration forms will not be accepted until April 17.

 

Kindergarten/Elementary Registration Hours:

 

Monday, April 17                        7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

April 18 –April 28                       8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Parents/guardians who wish to open enroll their child to a school outside of their attendance area may pick up Open Enrollment applications or release forms at their attendance area school during normal business hours beginning April 10; however, forms will not be accepted in the receiving school until Monday, April 17.

 

Open enrollment requests at Walla Walla Public Schools will be granted according to priorities outlined in School Board Policy No. 3130 which will be used to determine movement of a student. School Board Policy manuals are available for public viewing at all Walla Walla Public Schools and the Administration Office. RCW 28A.710.060

RCW 28A.710.060 requires school districts to provide information to parents and the general public about charter schools located within the district as an enrollment option for students. Currently, Willow Public Charter School is the only charter school operating within the Walla Walla School District boundaries.
