Welcome Erin Jones

Black History Month celebration includes visit from Erin Jones

This week educator and public speaker Erin Jones is visiting Walla Walla to speak with students from Garrison and Pioneer Middle Schools and Walla Walla High School on issues of belonging and equity as part of the district’s Black History Month celebration and alignment with Goal #3 of the Vision 2030 Strategic Plan. Erin Jones has been involved in and around schools for three decades. She has taught in a variety of environments and communities in the nation. During her time in Walla Walla, she is challenging students to dream big, have courage and love one another. Jones is meeting with groups of students in small settings as well as speaking to the entire student population at all school assemblies.

“Erin's story is inspiring, and her message to students clearly supports our efforts to build a culture of equity and belonging,” said Dr. Julie Perron, Walla Walla Public Schools Director of Equity and Dual Programs. “Her motivational speech, as well as her conversation with small groups and individuals, remind us of the utmost importance of students sharing their stories and having a voice in their own lives.”
