New Interim Berney Principal

Don Davis assumes Interim Principal Role at Berney Elementary School

Berney Elementary Principal Michelle Carpenter recently announced she is permanently stepping away as principal following her seven-year tenure as the school’s leader. As a result, Don Davis, former Ferndale Elementary Principal in the Milton-Freewater School District, will serve as the Berney Elementary interim principal for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.

Davis’ first day in his new role will be Wednesday, Sept. 20. The district will complete a comprehensive principal search for a permanent principal involving staff, parents, students and community members later this school year for the 2024-25 school year.

Davis is a proven administrator with nearly 20 years of experience in education. He began his educational career at Berney Elementary as a student teacher, before amassing experience as an elementary teacher and administrator in Milton-Freewater. Throughout his career he has been dedicated to improving school performance and student success. He holds Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Education and has his Continuing Administrators License from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR.

“I am honored to have been named interim principal at Berney Elementary for the remainder of the school year,” said Davis. “I have the utmost respect for all the staff and students have accomplished over the years and look forward to supporting this great work.”

Davis is married to WWPS Graduate of Distinction Tera Davis. He is a father of two adult children and two in the WWPS system; one is a junior at Walla Walla High School and the other a 7th grader at Garrison Middle School.
