History Day Projects Advance to State

Garrison Middle School students win 2023 Regional History Day competition; several teams advance to state

Congratulations to Garrison Middle School students who participated in the 2023 Regional History Day competition on Saturday, March 11, held at Eastern Washington University.

“The students represented Garrison and Walla Walla very well taking home many accolades,” said teacher Beth Clearman. “Not only did they behave themselves, but they presented their projects to the judges with clarity and details. They were very enthusiastic and passionate about their topics. The judges were impressed with the enthusiasm and knowledge they had acquired throughout this process.”

All students submitted a project, which followed the theme of the year, Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas. Students presented projects to a panel of judges who questioned them about their topic and research methods. Each project included a process paper on their research skills and an annotated bibliography. Students and projects were evaluated on a plethora of criteria.

Some students worked individually and others in a group. At the end of the day, Walla Walla came home with the following awards:
Junior Division (note: all participants are 8th graders at Garrison Middle School)
