Wa-Hi Wrestler named WIAA Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to Walla Walla High School wrestler Mateo Caso for being selected WIAA Athlete of the Week for week 19. Mateo secured the title at the Rumble in the Valley on Jan. 21. Mateo maintains 3.9 GPA and would like to pursue a career as a lawyer. He has already been offered multiple scholarship opportunities to wrestle at the collegiate level and is narrowing down his options.

“This was a huge tournament win,” said Coach Jacob Butenhoff. “He has some big things ahead as he is setting some significant records in his time at Wa-Hi.”

Walla Walla High School hosts the district tournament Feb. 4 at the Wa-Hi gym. The top four from each weight class advance to the regional tournament the following week.

“We will have many of our kids advance and I know they would love to see you in the stands on Feb. 4,” said Butenhoff. “Our kids are excited as they enter our post season play. Thank you all for your continued support.”
