Educator of the Year

Wa-Hi Library-Media Specialist named Chamber Educator of the Year

Congratulations to Walla Walla High School Library-Media Specialist Kim Cassetto for receiving the Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce Hometown Hero Educator of the Year Award. The Chamber established the Educator of the Year Award, sponsored by GESA Credit Union, to recognize excellence in the teaching profession and to inform the community of the exceptional quality of instruction delivered in the Walla Walla Valley.

Kim has been an educator for 23 years. She started with Walla Walla Public Schools in 2002. She spent six years as an English teacher at Walla Walla High School before moving on to Walla Walla Community College for the next eight years. Kim returned to Walla Walla High School in 2016 and currently serves as the school’s librarian. Kim has strong technology skills and supports the district’s Technology Department on special projects as needed. She was nominated by four students. Student nominators say Kim is always helpful and encourages them to be their best. All of the nominators stated Kim is goes above and beyond to support their learning needs. Kim is also the school’s National Honor Society advisor.

“Anytime we recognize educators it is a privilege and an honor, and to be nominated by students makes it that much more meaningful because that’s why I’m here,” said Cassetto. “I enjoy seeing students reach their potential and am passionate about advocating for students to make their next steps in life a reality. It’s so exciting to see students be so compassionate about serving one another in an area they feel passionate about. It makes me love coming to work every day.”
