School Safety Top Priority

The school shooting in Texas last week adds to the anxiety everyone is experiencing around the topic of school safety. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and their families. It is a terrible, senseless tragedy.

Walla Walla Public Schools continues to make safety and the security of our students the top priority. It’s job number one. There is no compromise. The district works closely with local law enforcement, conducts emergency drills, hires safety officers, has a Sheriff’s Deputy on staff and utilizes communications tools to make notifying school officials of threats easier. All threats of violence are taken seriously. Threats are immediately investigated in cooperation with local law enforcement officials. We also stress to students and staff if they see something, say something. It is critical to share this information.
