AVID students present to Exchange Club

Wa-Hi AVID students share passion for program with Exchange Club members
Monday Walla Walla High School juniors Yasmeen Flores and Hunter Swopes reported to club members on their experiences in the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. AVID accelerates student learning, uses research-based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional development, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change. This program prepares students for college eligibility, develops strong peer groups, connects students to their community, improves academic achievement and is recognized nationally for excellence. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. Exchange Club President Bryan Ponti was impressed with what he heard.

“I feel the program for our students and community is priceless,” Ponti said. “These students, many who are first generation college bound, have this program to wrap around their academics and encourage them to go to college. This is what we need in the community and in our schools.”
