New York educator shares ideas with leadership team
New York City Department of Education Instructional Coach Vicki Madden recently met with district administrators to discuss strategies for working with struggling students. Madden was in town to speak at Whitman College about preparing low income students for college. Madden discussed recent ideas from her hard-hitting New York Times column on first generation college students.
Madden grew up in Western Washington and has been teaching in New York City since 1985. She was a child of poverty and domestic violence who found her way to Columbia University. She was impressed with programs and strategies WWPS is using to make connections with students. Thanks to Whitman College for making time for Madden to meet with the district leadership team.
