Honor Unit with Distinction

Wa-Hi JROTC earns highest rating

Walla Walla High School Army JROTC was formally inspected for its JROTC Program of Accreditation (JPA) on April 9 and 15 by Mr. Mark Pratt 8th Brigade, U.S. Army Cadet Command. The program earned the highest rating in JROTC by earning the Honor Unit with Distinction (HUD), Gold Star. Less than 10% of all JROTC programs qualify for the HUD status. Skills learned during the process, include communication, leadership, military customs and courtesies, plan preparation, execution of tasks, interview process, resumes, briefings, working as a team and respect.

“Everything these kids went through during preparation and execution of our JPA applies to their everyday lives as students and within the community,” said Senior Army Instructor CSM (R) Anthony Marrero. “These are extraordinary scores and the kids went above and beyond to earn this award.”

The inspection events included;
• 90/90 cadets participated, 100%.
• Color guard routine which included uncasing and casising colors (very difficult), 100%.
• Drill platoon marching routine,100%
• A briefing detailing the planning and execution of the program’s annual service-learning project, Operation Forgotten Valor, 88%.
• A briefing detailing the planning and execution of the program’s annual continuous improvement project, 92%.
• An interview with ten selected cadets across all four grade levels and an inspection of each one’s academic curriculum portfolio, 98.25%.
• An in-ranks Class A uniform and cadet knowledge check of all assigned cadets in the program, 98.5%.

For both instructors:
• Portfolios 30/30 points,100%
• Unit report 35/35, 100%
