Winter Sports Post Season Update

Winter Sports Post Season Update – By Athletic Director Chris Ferenz

After a rough two-week stretch of winter weather, the Blue Devil winter sports programs have made-up postponed contests and completed their regular season schedule and head to the postseason looking to bring home some hardware.

The Walla Walla HS Competitive Cheer team led the charge to postseason recognition this past weekend as they traveled to Battleground HS for the WIAA Cheer State Championships. On Friday, February 2, the team finished 2nd in the 3A/4A non-tumbling event, an improvement over their 3rd place finish from the previous season. In addition, on Saturday, the team finished 3rd overall in the 3A Game Day category. Congratulations to coach Morgan Arreola and her team.

Although she did not place, sophomore Amelia Hubbard, qualified for and competed in the WIAA State Championships in Girls Bowling. Amelia will return for the Blue Devils looking to build on the experience of making it to state this year.

In addition, the district has two important levies on the February 13 ballot. The first is the renewal of the Replacement Educational & Operations Learning Levy. This is not a new tax, but a replacement of the expiring 2020 levy. This levy funds athletics, honors classes, music, school safety and other essential programs not funded by the state. The second measure is a short-term Capital Levy to improve outdoor athletic and activity facilities. Learn more in the Fact Sheets at our entry information table and on our district websites. Please remember to vote February 13. For more information: WWPSLevy
