Books for Babes Turns 10! Come Celebrate!

Over the past 10 years Books for Babes has given out 7,000 bags of books to newborns and their parents at Providence St. Mary and General Hospital.   Each newborn received a bag containing soft books, hard books and a homemade book from local children.

Besides the book bags, Books for Babes has encouraged early literacy by also involving students at Edison Elementary in stuffing the bags, creative fundraising with students, provided books to the farm labor homes and surprised the first baby born in Walla Walla each January with a gift basket of books.

Books for Babes has also partnered with business and community organizations including Book & Game, Earthlight Books, the Moms’ Network and Junior Club of Walla Walla.

In celebration of a successful 10 years, Books for Babes will be distributing free cupcakes at Book & Game at 10 a.m. on:

-  July 11,  July 18,  August 8,  August 22

To help Books for Babes continue to fill book bags, on the above dates anyone can purchase a Fuzzy Bee & Friends soft book and the Moms’ Network will be will match the purchase with an additional book.  With each $10 donation, 2 soft books will be donated to Books for Babes.  The books can be purchased at Book & Game or online at www.themomsnetworkww.com.  There will also be a raffle for 2 tickets to the Moms’ Network event Bubbles & Baubles on August 22.

“It has been a wonderful ten years for us and we are excited to continue to grow” says Kay Barga, co-founder of Books for Babes.  “With the support of the community and other nonprofits such as the Moms’ Network we can continue to provide early learning opportunities for the children of Walla Walla.”
