District to study 1:1 Technology options
Initiative focuses personal devices for students

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Linda Boggs and Technology Director Forrest Baker reported to school board members Tuesday night on planning efforts to develop a WWPS 1:1 Technology Initiative which hinges on personal electronic devices for students and curriculum delivered electronically.

Boggs and Baker visited the Vail School District in Tucson, AZ during the winter to learn how its schools have embraced this concept. The process in Walla Walla will start with the establishment of an internal Technology Task Force. This group will help develop a vision for the project.

Boggs and Baker revealed a Top 10 list of areas to address in order for this initiative to gain traction. Funding, professional development and content management of curriculum are critical elements of this list, according to Tuesday night’s report.

Baker said the Technology Task Force will serve in an advisory role. He expects approximately nine to 14 meetings within a year, meeting monthly. He said some sub-committees may meet outside of this schedule.
