Walla Walla High School Spring Sports Tournament Update – By Athletic Director Don Wilkins
Update: 5-15-13

Here is an update on the post-season progress of our spring sports teams:

Softball
Last Saturday our Softball defeated Chiawana and Richland to claim the 4A District title and the #1 seed to the Regional Tournament which will be held at Richland H.S. this Saturday. The Blue Devils will play Central Valley (#1 seed from the GSL) at noon. If we defeat Central Valley we will be the #1 Seed from our Region to the State Tournament the following weekend. If we are defeated by Central Valley, at 2:00 PM we will play the winner of the Richland vs. Mead game for the second seed to State.

Track
Our teams had an excellent day at the District track meet last Saturday in Richland. They qualified 29 girls and 25 boys for the Regional meet which is at Spokane Falls C.C. this Friday and Saturday. On Friday events start at 3:30 PM and on Saturday they start at 10:30 AM. The top two in each event qualify for the State meet the following weekend which is held at Mt. Tahoma HS in Tacoma.

Tennis
The District tennis tournament was held last Friday and Saturday in Pasco and our girls won the 4A District title with victories in the #1 singles and the #1 doubles competition. Winning the singles competition was Danielle Thongdy and the winning doubles was the team of Allison Mehn and Rachel Schueller.
These players will advance to the Regional Tournament this Saturday at Richland HS vs. the #1 finishers from the GSL with the top two individuals and teams from this competition advancing to the State Tournament next weekend. The State competition will also be held at Richland HS. Matches start at 1:00 PM.

Golf
The Girls and Boys District Golf tournament was held this Monday and Tuesday. Yesterday at Sun Willows in Pasco was the final round of the tournament for both the girls and boys teams. For the girls Jessica Huntsman qualified for State with a 4th place finish and Kendall Dunovant finished as the first alternate. On the boys side Dean Atkinson tied for second and qualified for the State Tournament. The State golf tournament will be held in Vancouver/Camas on May 21 and 22.

ALSO
We will be hosting the first round of 2B State Baseball this weekend at Murr Field. Games are at 10 AM, 1 PM and 4 PM. DeSales is one of the teams involved. Being able to host this event is great for our community and a tribute to the fantastic job John Pemeberton has done developing and maintaining the field.
