Downtown window display highlights National 4H Week

A window display celebrating the work of the Barnyard Champs 4H program is on display downtown in the Drumheller building on 2nd Avenue and Alder Street. School Board member and longtime 4H volunteer Ruth Ladderud helped coordinate the display in honor of National 4H Week.

The Barnyard Champs 4-H Club in Walla Walla helps promote literacy in the Walla Walla valley by donating books to the Head Start/ECEAP Preschool program. Since beginning this project in 2003, more than 3000 book bags have been sewn by 4H members totaling more than 1000 hours of community service. Head Start / ECEAP Programs are family development programs that provide comprehensive education, health and social services to children ages 3 - 5 and their families. Head Start preschool is funded by the federal government and ECEAP (Early Childhood Education Assistance Program) is funded by Washington State. Besides sewing, Barnyard Champs 4-H members, who range in grades from 1-12, raise sheep and pigs to show and sell at the Walla Walla County Fair.
