Berney conducts off-site evacuation drill

This week Berney Elementary staff and students made the short trek to the Blue Mountain Community Church as part of their off-site evacuation drill procedure. This procedure is used if the school needs to be evacuated and it is not safe to re-enter the building.

For example, this procedure was used earlier this spring by Sharpstein Elementary when an HVAC fan failed and caused an odor in the school. Sharpstein students walked over to the YMCA as fire officials inspected the building and identified the cause of the odor. Once the school was deemed safe, students returned to Sharpstein to continue their school day.

Berney staff and students did an outstanding job safely walking over to their evacuation site. They also clearly communicated it was only a drill and not an actual school emergency. Thanks to the Blue Mountain Community Church for supporting the district’s safety procedures by allowing their facility to be used during an emergency.

Great job Bulldogs!
