Sports Medicine students test knowledge at state competition

Twelve Walla Walla High School sports medicine students competed at the 29th annual Washington Career and Technical Sports Medicine Spring Symposium and Competition. This is the state competition for Sports Medicine. Students were challenged to complete two, 100-point general knowledge tests in sports medicine and then one, 100-point test in one of the specialties, including exercise physiology, medical terminology, CPR and first aid, anatomy and physiology, or oral practical.

“This is the most sports medicine students who have attended this event and we had our first state placer in Stella Billingsley who placed 4th out of 84 competitors in the Exercise Physiology/Strength and Conditioning specialty,” said Sports Medicine Teacher Kelsey Dill, who is also the school’s athletic director. “This is considered the most difficult specialty at the event.”

The instructors were also invited to participate in an anatomy competition on the Anatomage table and team Mid-Columbia Conference, which included Kelsey Dill (Wa-Hi), Ciara Ashworth (Kamiakin), and Matt Gray (Hanford), placed first in this event.
