Finalists named for Edison Elementary Principal position

Walla Walla Public Schools announces Amy Kasenga and Marlene Perez have been named finalists for the Edison Elementary principal position.

Last spring, former Edison Elementary Principal Jenny Foster requested a year-long leave of absence for the 2022-2023 school year to care for a family member. She made the difficult decision to continue to provide care for her relative and recently submitted her resignation. Her notification prompted the search for a full-time, permanent principal. Amy Kasenga has been serving as Interim Principal this school year.

Parents, staff, community members and students are encouraged to meet the candidates:
- Edison Elementary: Thursday, Feb. 23 (4 to 4:40 p.m.)

Attendees are asked to complete candidate feedback cards and be present for both candidate sessions (translation services will be available).

Amy Kasenga is serving as Interim Principal at Edison Elementary for the 2022-2023 school year. Kasenga, who has been an educator for 27 years, has been employed by Walla Walla Public Schools for seven years. She has been a dual language teacher at Blue Ridge Elementary and Garrison Middle School. Kasenga also served as Long-term English Learner Specialist and Assistant Principal at Edison Elementary. Kasenga also has teaching experience in White Salmon Early Learning Center, Klickitat School District and Columbia High School.

Marlene Perez has served the community of Pacific Beach Elementary School since 2019. Pacific Beach Elementary is part of the North Beach School District, located in Pacific Beach, Washington. Marlene began her teaching career in a dual language immersion program in Vancouver School District. Marlene has been an educator for 18 years and has served as a bilingual para educator, teacher, Title 1/Hi Cap Coordinator, Bilingual/Migrant Coordinator, and principal.
