History Project #1 in State

Garrison Middle School 8th graders (L-R) Natalia Horn Quintero, Eva Maxwell and Natalie Williams took first place for the state of Washington for their exhibit entitled "The 1967 Space Treaty" in the National History Day competition. There were more than 300 students participating.

The 1967 Outer Space Treaty bans the stationing of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in outer space, prohibits military activities on celestial bodies, and details legally binding rules governing the peaceful exploration and use of space. This victory qualified the Garrison MS team for the National competition to be held virtually in June. The event was sponsored and paid for by GEAR UP, under the direction of Teresa Gingras.
