DOH requires COVID field testing for high risk indoor sports 

Friday, Dec. 17 the Washington State Department of Health tightened COVID protocols for athletes participating in high-contact indoor sports and activities, including basketball, wrestling, water polo, and competitive cheer. The changes are effective immediately.

“In response to heightened concern related to the Covid-19 omicron variant, WA DOH is expanding mandatory testing for all athletes participating in high risk indoor sports,” said Walla Walla Public Schools Health Services Director Amy Ruff. “All athletes are required to have a rapid Covid-19 tests performed three times weekly, regardless of vaccination status.”

Ruff says parent consent is required for all Covid-19 rapid testing done by WWPS. The district is in the process of getting consent forms completed and ordering additional testing supplies to begin implementing the new state mandates.
