Local Contractor Low Bidder

Local contractor low bidder for Lincoln High School renovation project

Walla Walla Public Schools’ Board of Directors unanimously authorized Superintendent Dr. Wade Smith to negotiate and award the general contractor bid for the Lincoln High School bond renovation project following last week’s public bid opening. Smith and consultants will begin finalizing documents with Chervenell Construction Co of Walla Walla and Kennewick, WA.

Chervenell competed with five other bidders for the Lincoln HS project, set to renovate the 1927 structure, resulting from the school construction bond overwhelmingly approved by voters in November 2018.

“We are excited to renovate and preserve this iconic school so it can continue to serve our community’s children for generations to come,” said Superintendent Smith. “I am proud that we continue to deliver on our bond promises made, and am excited to break ground on this historic project this fall.”

Bids for the Lincoln HS improvements were supervised and reviewed by the district’s community-led Bond Oversight Committee. The project qualified for considerable state construction grants, projected to cover approximately half of the cost of the improvements, helping keep tax rates stable for local taxpayers.

Renovation Highlights:
• Renovate 1927 classrooms
• Minor renovation to 1964 wing
• ADA entrance
• Elevator for handicap accessibility
• Parking improvements
• Walking path to new teen center
• Drama/fine arts addition
• Remove existing 4-classroom portable

The school will be under construction throughout the entire 2021-22 school year. Students will remain on campus during construction being served in nearby portable classrooms.
