AP Biology students visit Whitman

Walla Walla High School Science teacher Mary Burt and students in her Advanced Placement Biology class recently visited Whitman College to use state-of-the-art microscopy equipment. Students also learned more about how the Scanning Electron Microscope and Confocal microscope works, thanks to Heidi Chapin and the science techs.

In addition, Burt’s students have benefited from numerous guest speakers to extend their understanding of biology topics this year:
• Dr. Tom Knight and Dr. Leena Knight presented information on Neurobiology
• Dr. Tim Parker presented on Research Topics and publishing in Biology
• Dr. Kirsten Nicolaysen presented on local issues in Global Climate Change
• Dr. Doug Juers presented on X-Ray crystallography and imaging of biomolecules
