2016-2017 Strategic Planning Process

Planning for Walla Walla Public Schools’ Future

Walla Walla Public Schools is embarking on an exciting journey to develop a long-range Strategic Plan which will serve as a framework for focusing efforts, allocating resources, and prioritizing initiatives in the years to come. Superintendent Wade Smith is leading this inclusive process aimed at identifying current successes, in addition to needs and challenges and then addressing them through laserlike strategic initiatives. Superintendent Smith will infuse multiple layers of dialogue involving students, staff, parents and community members every step of the way. The Strategic Planning process will result in a new Vision, Mission and Values statement for the school district as well as measurable goals and detailed initiatives to support today’s learning needs. It is critical district stakeholders take advantage of the vast opportunities for input and reflection. The Strategic Planning process relies on the sharing of your hopes and dreams for the future of Walla Walla Public Schools as we collectively envision a world-class education for all students.

District plans community outreach sessions and survey to gain input for Strategic Plan development
Walla Walla Public Schools is planning a series of community and staff outreach sessions in English and Spanish to get input to inform a long-range Strategic Planning initiative currently underway. These engagement sessions are designed to help the school board and administration gain insight on the district’s strengths as well as opportunities for growth. Two school board members and the superintendent will be leading each of the sessions.

The district is launching an online survey Oct. 5 to 21, in English and Spanish, also aimed at gathering input on these critical issues. The survey input and feedback from the outreach sessions, in addition to recent listening sessions, data and engagements, will be used in the development of a new Vision, Mission and Values statement for the school district. The data will also be included in discussions as the district develops measurable goals and detailed initiatives to support today’s learning needs as part of the five-year strategic plan. The new Strategic Plan is expected to be completed by June 2017.
