Our Mission

The mission of Garrison Night School is to promote the education of Hispanic parents by connecting them to the school community, preparing them for a General Education Diploma and facilitating their enrollment in college, thus raising the educational level and standard of living of the family.

Program Overview

Garrison Night School is a community partnership between Walla Walla Public Schools and Walla Walla Community College. The program, funded by both institutions, provides educational opportunities to our increasing Hispanic population.

The program was established in 1994 to help Walla Walla’s Hispanic population access education that they may not have had the opportunity to gain in their homeland or in the United States.

In November of each year, students may enroll in beginning, intermediate or advanced ESL classes, GED preparation classes, Spanish Literacy classes, and Spanish for English speakers.

The partnership includes concurrent registration between WWCC and Garrison Night School. The Community College also arranges for GED testing and quick turn around on the scoring.

Childcare for children age 3 and up is provided free of charge.  All the children that attend are encouraged to practice reading skills using books purchased with a literacy grant from the Altrusa Club of Walla Walla.   School-age children participate in activities led by the WSU Extension Office’s  4-H program and the Boy Scouts’ Learning for Life program.  The preschool age children receive instruction using an early literacy program Estrellita.  This program is provided through a generous grant from the United Way of Walla Walla County.

We are proud to serve more than 200 adults annually through this dynamic program. We realize this program brightens the futures of the adults it serves. We also know it improves communication with our Hispanic parents as we work to provide learning opportunities for their children. Garrison Night School truly is Connecting our Community.
