District receives grant to support bilingual educator recruitment
Walla Walla Public Schools was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Professional Educator Standards Board for its Recruiting Washington Teachers and Bilingual Educator Initiative program. These grants of $10,000 are being offered to Washington State school districts and tribal compact schools who are interested in starting a Recruiting Washington Teachers (RWT) or Recruiting Washington Teachers - Bilingual Educator Initiative (RWT-BEI) high school teacher academy program.
“This program supports the district’s priority of increasing the number of bilingual educators across its campuses,” said Assistant Superintendent Chris Gardea. “This program will help our district ‘grow our own’ diverse group of future teachers who more closely reflect the student population within the Walla Walla community.”
RWT is a high school teacher academy program with a goal that participating students will become not only certified teachers, but also education leaders who make a difference in their communities.
