Preschool Parent Ambassador

Parent Whitney Johnson has been selected to be a 2019 Washington State Association of Head Start/ECEAP Parent Ambassador. Johnson is the third parent from the Walla Walla Public Schools’ program to be selected and one of 20 named from across the state this year from the numerous applications received.

The Washington State Association of Head Start/ECEAP (WSA) is a statewide organization composed of representatives from Head Start, Early Head Start, Migrant Head Start, Native American Head Start and the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP). The association has been in existence since the late 1960's and was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1986.

The WSA Parent Ambassador Program, established in 2009, is made possible with support from WSA as well as advocacy partners at MomsRising, Child Care Aware of Washington, Save the Children Action Network, Thrive Washington and the Children's Alliance.  The parents selected for this program participate in a yearlong parent advocacy and leadership training program.  They receive training on communications, leadership, legislative advocacy and grassroots organizing, and are responsible for training parents in their local programs and participating in advocacy efforts on both the state and federal level.
