Staff Achievement grant recipients named

Walla Walla Public Schools has named its 2016-2017 Staff Achievement Grant recipients. The program started in 1988 to recognize teachers and support staff for superior performance, innovation, exemplary leadership and exceptional service.  Staff Achievement Grant recipients, who are nominated and chosen by their peers, receive a $1,500 stipend and five days of paid release time for professional growth activities.

Amy Hartford (5th Grade Teacher – Green Park Elementary School)

Jerry Poirier (Trades Assistant – Support Services)

Bryan Eggart (PE Teacher – Blue Ridge Elementary)

Arturo Alonso (Custodian – Walla Walla High School)

Amy Hartford

Amy is a 15 year veteran teacher who always puts kids first. She teaches 5th grade. Amy’s perseverance and training in preparing for marathons and triathlons finds its way into the classroom. She has a tremendous work ethic, is persistent, calm and always present in helping all kids to be their best.

Jerry Poirier

Jerry is the delivery person for Support Services. Each year he delivers thousands of boxes of printing, food, supplies and other goods from the warehouse to schools. No matter the task, he always has a positive attitude and an ability to put the needs of others first.

Bryan Eggart

Bryan is the Physical Education teacher at Blue Ridge Elementary. He has an incredible thirst for life and his energy levels push everyone he comes in contact with to do their best. He loves kids and makes each one feel important and valued. Communication is a strength and he always finds creative ways to make exercise, even for grown-ups, a fun experience.

Arturo Alonso

Arturo is a custodian at Walla Walla High School. He has spent the past 21 years dedicated to supporting Wa-Hi staff and students across the campus. Arturo’s top priority is to ensure Wa-Hi always looks presentable to both the community-at-large and everyday campus patrons. His attention to detail ensures visitors always have a good impression of the school.

Tina Holbrook

Tina is the Learning Specialist at Green Park Elementary. She is known for having a way of lifting the spirits of everyone she comes in contact with. Tina takes the time to learn about the background of each child and observe them in learning and social settings to help provide the support they need to be successful. She’ll use her strong intuitive nature, compassion and empathy to guide decisions utilizing research and data throughout the process.
