Prospect Point FIRST Lego League Robotics Team advances to state
The Prospect Point “Super Star Builders” FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics Team took first place in the regional competition held Dec. 3 at Ellen Ochoa Middle School in Pasco. The strong regional performance qualifies the Prospect Point team to advance to the state tournament January 21 in Spokane. Prospect Point’s “Super Star Builders” team is composed of eight, 4th and 5th grade students. This year’s theme for all competing teams was “Animal Allies,” focusing on how humans and animals interact.
The Super Star Builders won the 1st Place Trophy for the Robot Performance Award which recognizes the team scoring the most points during the Robot Game. They also won the Programming Award recognizing them for outstanding programming principles, including clear, concise and reusable code that allows their robot to perform challenge missions autonomously and consistently.
The team has been training after school since the beginning of the school year under the direction of parent coaches Anne-Marie Anderson, Kelly Gabel, Jenny Maxon, and Jeff Lyon, an engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers. Good luck at state!
