October is Anti-Bullying month and Garrison Middle School staff and students dressed in orange Oct. 29 to take a united stand against bullying. Through Project Connect, Garrison Middle School students created messages on how they can help make their school safer. Students learned the definition of bullying, studied characteristics, and discussed myths about the topic. They also talked about the impact of cyerbullying through social media and text messages. All students reviewed how to report an incident, what to do if they witness bullying and strategies for preventing it.

“In every classroom we had terrific participation and dialog around the issue of bullying,” said Principal Robert Elizondo. “We have the best counseling staff in the district and they were the ones who organized this activity for our school.”

Project Connect also featured a colossal orange paper chain of the messages written by Garrison students on display in the school’s main hallway. The chain represented the following message: Even though we are all different, we are all part of this community.
