Blue Ridge recycles markers in support of Earth Day

(L to R) Blue Ridge 2nd graders Bianca Vieyra, Elizjah Garcia, Eden Contreras present to kindergarten students in Mrs. Moreno’s class about the school’s Earth Day recycling project. Blue Ridge students will be collecting, sorting, tallying and preparing Crayola markers now until the end of the school year to ship back to the Crayola Company. Once the markers are delivered to Crayola, they are melted down and refined into fuel.

Used markers stay out of the landfill and are recycled into something useful, according to Project Coordinator Tara Jasper, who serves as a Para-Educator at Blue Ridge. Vieyra, Garcia and Contreras are in Cheryl Thonney and Cory Hobbs' classes.

Jasper encourages others to visit the Crayola website recycling web page to join in this campaign. For more information on this program, contact Tara Jasper - tjasper@wwps.org.
