5-12 HIV/AIDS Prevention materials review

In January, our School Board approved the adoption of new grade 5-12 HIV/AIDS Prevention materials (Rights, Respect, Responsibility). This was a significant step toward ensuring that students have access to the most current materials and information, aligned across grade levels.

In keeping with the state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) requirement that all districts inform parents/guardians of all materials used with students in fifth through twelfth grades, there will be a presentation on Wednesday, March 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Board Room. Materials also will be on display Thursday and Friday, March 29 and 30, from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the district office.

Parents who wish to have their child excused from participation in the HIV/AIDS prevention program may obtain an opt-out form at the district office following the parent presentation or during the preview days. State law provides that a parent or guardian must preview materials before they can object and have their child excused from participation in the HIV/AIDS prevention program.
