Elementary Math Contest

The Walla Walla Valley Elementary School Math Contest took place March 7 at Blue Ridge Elementary. This annual event sponsored by the Walla Walla School District and organized by volunteer Laura Schueller included a series of four 25-minute problem sets that test the mathematical thinking of our 4th and 5th graders. Assumption, Berney, Blue Ridge, Davis, Green Park, Prospect Point, and Sharpstein elementary schools each sent a team of 12 students.

There were a total of 83 students in this year's contest. The overall winner in the team competition was the Assumption Elementary team: Mary Elizabeth Balof, Hadley Beechinor, Sophie Borth, Ryan Chase, Andres Dankel, Peter Didelius, Seamus Doohan, Sam Haugen, Camden McCollaugh, Simon Scheel, Maddie Wahl, and Christopher Williams and coached by Jill Montgomery and Carrine Leahy. Second place went to Green Park, third to Sharpstein.

The top-four overall in the individual competition were: 1st Place: Sam Haugen, Assumption; 2nd Place (3-way tie): Peter Didelius, Assumption; Aaron Christopherson, Green Park; Gem Kruger, Green Park.
