Health Center new board

The Health Center is pleased to announce that it will welcome five new board members this summer: Melani Mangum, RN (Providence St. Mary Medical Center), Karen Bayne, Linda Brown, Ted Koehler (BMAC), and Sharon Hopwood (Saviah Cellars) will help the organization continue to provide school-based medical and counseling services to at-risk youth at Blue Ridge Elementary and Lincoln High School. The new volunteers, who collectively bring a wealth of experience and a long history of community advocacy, will replace several founding board members of The Health Center as their final board terms come to an end.

“We want to thank Dr. Alison Kirby (who will continue to serve as Ex Officio Medical Director), Steve Moss (BMAC), Kathy Oreb (Providence St. Mary Medical Center), and Les Stahlnecker (Educational Service District 123) for their service, hard work, and passion for the organization's mission,” said Board President Susan Newton. “Because of their support and leadership, 100 percent of graduating Lincoln High School seniors received medical care at The Health Center and 50 percent were seen for mental health care during their time at school. This year, we doubled the number of visits and students seen at the Blue Ridge.”

The Health Center is a non-profit organization established in 2008 to provide medical and counseling services to at-risk youth. It does not receive direct financial support from Walla Walla Public Schools. The Health Center operates school-based health clinics at Blue Ridge Elementary and Lincoln High School to deliver primary health and mental health care and substance abuse counseling for all students. The Health Center’s mission is to promote the success of students by providing for their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
