Music students shine

District music students receive honors at regional festivals

Garrison Middle School Jazz Band
The WWPS Music Department reports the Garrison Middle School Jazz band received a "2014 Noteworthy Performance" Award for Middle School Jazz Bands. Also receiving an award for this performance at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival was Garrison Middle School 6th Grade Trumpet player Nate Miller.

Garrison Middle School Band
The Garrison Middle School Band received straight Superior Ratings from the panel of adjudicators at the Regional Columbia Basin Music Educators (CBMEA) Large Group Band Festival. District Music Coordinator Roger Garcia said "they performed lights out."

Pioneer Middle School Orchestra
The Pioneer Middle School 7-8 grade orchestra performed at the CBMEA Middle School Large Group Orchestra Festival at Chief Jo Middle School on Tuesday, March 25. They received a superior rating. The students performed Concerto in D Major by Bach; Evening Prayer by Humperdinck, and Dance Scenario by Elliot Del Borgo. Lora Roosendahl, one of the adjudicators remarked that she was impressed with the high level of quality performance and repertoire selection.

Wa-Hi Orchestra
Congratulations to the Wa-Hi Orchestras for receiving a superior rating at the Columbia Basin Music Educator Association's Large Group Orchestra Festival Thursday, March 13 at Hanford High School. They performed Haydn's Surprise Variations & Mendelssohn's Sinfonia in D Major. The next concert is the District Orchestra Festival on Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. in the Wa-Hi Small Gym.

Wa-Hi Choirs
The WWHS Combined Women's Choir and the WWHS Symphonic Choir both participated in the Columbia Basin Music Educator's 2014 Large Choir Contest March 27. Both groups received a "Superior" rating with the Symphonic Choir earning the highest scores for the entire festival. These groups included all of the 150 choral students at WWHS. They garnered high praise from the adjudicators for their hard work.
