Big Blue Weekend on hold

Rising costs put Big Blue Weekend on hold
Walla Walla High School Big Blue Weekend coordinators Mindy Meyer, Carina Stillman and Kris Duncan recently announced Big Blue Weekend has been suspended in its current form. There will not be an event in Antelope, OR this fall. The primary factor for this decision was rising costs to book the event site at the Washington Family Ranch. Another critical factor was the overwhelming time commitment of staff and volunteers to organize this event which took nearly 400 Wa-Hi students to the central Oregon location for a three-day experience to enhance relationships and improve school climate.

“We recognize this will be a huge disappointment to many students at Wa-Hi, and it will create a need for opportunities for students to connect with one another and staff,” said Duncan and Stillman, who are also Wa-Hi English teachers. “With this in mind, we have taken this challenge to the ASB leadership class to brainstorm ideas to fill this gap, with the possibility of a similar, but local event.”
