Community members visit schools during American Education Week
Thursday nearly 40 community members went back to school to visit area schools in celebration of American Education Week. Guests received an update of the school’s improvement plan, asked questions and toured the school with student ambassadors. They wrapped up their two-hour visit by having school lunch with their new buddies.
“American Education Week is a time to honor educators for all they do for students and their families,” Superintendent Rich Carter said. “Thanks to all those who took time to visit our schools and learn more about the positive impact public education is having on our community.”

Pioneer Middle School staff and students organize community donation drive to help family recover from house fire
This week Pioneer Middle School Physical Education Teacher Megan Poulson, with the help of students Jacob Tegtmeier (8th), Rebekah Tegtmeier (6th), Morghan Carrera (8th), Megan Thompson (7th) and Logan Morris (8th), delivered more than $700 in donated items to Rob Gonzalez to help his family recover from a fire which recently destroyed their home.
Pioneer Middle school students, staff and community members wanted to help the family during this difficult time in their lives. Thanks to the following businesses for these generous gifts to the Gonzalez family

Wa-Hi Music Department conducts coffee sale fundraiser
Order your fresh roasted Dyer Straits coffee through November 20. It will be roasted & delivered to you beginning on Monday, November 27th. You may order either whole bean, ground, regular or decaf coffee.

Wa-Hi Drama Department presents “Smokey Joe’s Café”
Show dates: November 16, 17 at 7:00 p.m. and November 18 at 2:00 p.m.
Location: Walla Walla High School Auditorium.
Smokey Joe’s Café features a rich and eclectic collection of 1950’s and 60’s songs written by Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller, who somehow seemed to have written every hit of their era. These finely crafted tunes represent a wide variety of rock genres from doo-wop to gospel and country Western to rhythm-and-blues. Hits such as “Hound Dog” and “Poison Ivy” are intermixed with less famous numbers in this show which has been often called a revue, but which contains no commentary or dialogue.
Instead of the traditional book music, this production presents a story, or mini-play, within each of the songs. As the show progresses, the energy builds, and the audience can’t help but become part of the music, clapping hands and bouncing knees to join in. This is a show that appeals to audience members of all generations!
